Elmira, Ontario

I have a couple questions about labour. One, there are 19 employees? Is that typical for this sized operation? That's roughly 50 to 60 milking cows per employee. It seems a high number of employees if they are all full time, but then I don't know this operation so there could be other factors I've overlooked.

The second question is related. The number of robots seems a bit high as well, but I suppose the incremental cost of each doesn't justify being stingy, considering the production dollars involved. What is a typically number of cows per robot?

One of the reasons I'm questioning the number of employees is that the robots are supposed to be labour saving, and I'm seeing cows/employee ratios that are similar to many smaller operations without parlours or robots. I suspect that the employees might not all be full time.

Again, this isn't a judgment of someone's operation, but a question about what I might be missing in this situation.
