Subject: RE: Wind Turbines

West Central Iowa
Someone in an earlier post stated :

"The worst complaints are about mechanical noises, squeaks or bangs that happen every time it goes around."

I'm not sure how common this complaint is but am a bit surprised! There is a wind farm near my parents home that have 2.5 MW turbines (much larger than what you are looking at) and I have never heard a single squeak or bang. The blades do make a "swooshing" sound with each pass, that can be heard up to 1/2 mile away with a strong wind. When you get close there might be a slight humming noise from the gearbox, but nothing that can be easily heard at 300-400 yards.

As someone mentioned, distance from the turbine (regardless of size) will be the biggest factor in attempting to minimize small inconveniences from the project.
