Those are ripples. Actually need to be replaced. The wavy coulters are just too aggressive for my ground. I'd actually prefer just a plain smooth blade with a scraper on the right hand side. Any type of blade in my area needs a scraper of some sort to work effectively.

Half the units are running out front floating row cleaners with 14 "straight" and depth bands, the other 4 are the standard stem mount with 12.75 "sweep back". I like the alternating for increased residue flow. I'd really really like to put GFX units out front on all 8.

I can get by with the row cleaners out front as I chop my stalks (usually) and don't need to cut the residue first. If I'm in wetter conditions, the lead coulter build up doesn't plug up the row cleaners.

Like Jim likes to comment, my ground is like tiger poo when it's wet. It sticks to anything and takes almost a power washer to get it off. Last fall I did a 40 that the strip was potting soil consistency, the swirls were completely full. Not of mud, but the fine particles that just "stuck" and built up. The same thing happens on the under side of the 4 X 4 of the unit. Not uncommon to have a build up of soil particles 3" thick on the under side. That really hampers the "flow" going through the 2 coulters. The back taper of the newer units reduces that greatly. Such is the properties of 7% OM. It just holds too much moisture in the spring and needs some "air" to dry out.
