Depends. Some just maintain and some take it to the next level. Are you a vital/needed? Or are you a glorified $10/hour employee with privileges? Theres a difference. The guys that improve on the farm, add acres, etc.. aren't going to be looked at as a coattail farmer. Now if your main jobs include grain carting, rolling, tender truck you probably aren't much of an asset.
