I use the phrase "paid your dues" when it comes to this. If you haven't paid your dues, people will talk as if you got much for nothing or a leg up. Only the person knows if they have. You have to be fair to everyone else, (equal isn't always fair) but have to be fair to yourself, too. I think I paid my dues. Now going to take some ibuprofen for my back.
