I have a neighbor who hired on to "re-brick" the inside of a chimney like that years ago...probably before OSHA.
In order to get the workers inside, they hoisted them up with a crane like that used in the pictures.
Might've been O.K., but the crane used a cable....as the cable raised the workers up, the cable twisted and spun the guys around.
That was his first AND LAST day on that particular job.
