Subject: Re: If you travel, especially in unknown areas

I bought a Garmin this summer. We've used it on two trips and both times it has taken me out of my way or given wrong directions. On one trip it routed me through a town only to bring us back to the same road we were on, just a couple miles down the road. It tried to do the samething on the return trip but I ignored it and found there was no reason it should have routed it the other way. On the same trip, our destination was a state park in TN. When we got to the exit we wanted it turned us the opposite direction & took us on a 10 mile loop just to end back at where we had gotten off the I-state.

On the other trip, I had programmed it for a specific motel in LaCrosse, WI. It had us exit the I-state & took us several blocks thru town on different streets, ending up at the next I-state exit where the motel was located.

Nevertheless, it's a lot better than the navigational unit that is built into our Tahoo. The only way I can get an address programed into that POS is to be sitting at that location. The thing wouldn't even accept our home address, said it was "non-existent". I think I at least know my own address, I've lived there almost 50 years. The manual gave an 800# to call if you had trouble & that they would program the address for you. When I called the # the person that answered said they didn't do that. When I said the manual list that number they direced my call to another # where I got an answering machine that said they were closed for the weeked .:~((
