I've arrived and bid on things at live auctions without having a bidder number more then a few times.  Most auctioneers are mildly annoyed, but a few get down right grouchy. 

I don't see anything that indicates the purplewave auction was stopped to run a bank check on anyone.  They kept going, then chewed on the offender later....just like the live auctions have when I bid before I made it to the clerk for my number.
