Subject: RE: Wheat Freeze injury

Southeastern Kansas
Our wheat must have been further along than yours when the freeze hit. Early wheat planted no till in corn stalks has shot a flag leaf and no head or only the top of the awns showing and most,80% are white. See a few live heads that are exerting and not competeely sure they aren't hurt too but it makes it easy to see the damaged. We see very few new tillers developing at this time and do not have much faith in the ones we see. Seems like a clump of thirty spikes has three of four that have healthy green awns comeing through the flag leaf. The rest are just sitting there or have started shooting a white desicated looking head. The live heads we are seeing right now look like maybe 5-10 bu at best and before its over they may die too. I STILL CANNOT BELIEVE THIS HAS HAPPENED.......
