The way I understand your post, your bid was never rejected.   They never locked your account from bidding higher.  Nothing kept you from buying it, except for the fact the other guy outbid you. 

This seems like an awful lot of fuss over an email that seems to have said "you're a new bidder buying something big, and we'd like to know a little more about you if you are going to be buying big stuff," but I would have to agree that the message caused unnecessary problems.
