southern MN | Basis would be 10 cents worse 'here'.
The trucking & rail jobs are 'here', not 'somewhere else' in the state.
Corn is now stored & hauled locally. Used to be it was loaded on a barge as fast as possible, and gone. One transport, super long distance, local job was a 100 mile trip, one load. Now, it's stored in bins built here, hauled to the ethanol plant, DDGs are hauled back, ethanol trasported around, allt he ifrastructure for storeage of all components, and so forth.
That's good for my local schools, local taxes, local jobs.
30-40 jobs in a town of 4000 people is a big deal. Wouldn't be noticeable in a town of 50,000 I suppose.
All together, it's local use, local handling, recurculating the money locally. Plus a 10 cent bonus on the basis. No one wanted to pay for corn after the lock & dams froze up in my part of the country. Weren't enough end users.
