Springville Alabama | The worst wreck (emotionally) that I have worked was on a Sunday afternoon. Single car rollover with entrapment. When I arrived on the scene the truck was on it's side with the driver half way out the passenger window and pinned between the truck and the ground. His 17 year old son was laying in the ditch. The father was obviously DOS (Dead on Scene). The 17 year old kept asking if his dad was going to be o.k. I had to tell him no. We flew the 17 year old that was ejected and he was released the next day. The real kicker to the whole situation is that I am the AP at the local elementary school. When the drivers wife showed up with their 7 year old son (one of my students) I had to tell her that her husband was dead.
We are a small all volunteer department and I called for mutual aid from our two sister departments. One helped with traffic control and the other assisted in lifting the vehicle with their air bags after the trooper arrived.
This wreck happened 1/2 mile from my house and I have to drive by there every day.
