You quit him because you believed in your own principles that it was the right thing to do.
You want to go back and clean up the mess you left because you believe in your own principles that it is the right thing to do.
All you can do is phone him and ask him if it would be okay if you came over and talked. If he is still hot you know the answer, if he has cooled off he'll say come over and talk. You can speak your piece then and see where it goes.
We are all capable of doing some dumb things when we get mad.
I admire you for standing by your own principles.
Like that old saying goes "You've got to stand for something or you'll fall for anything".
