A $10 fee for parking your car. Big flippin' deal.
From what I read, the school did not follow its' own written policy and gave your son suspension for 1 violation. Go to the school board meeting with a copy of the policy, and demand the suspension is removed from his record. This is the biggest part of the deal, as this will affect his future.
Follow the rules from now on. It's simple. Pay the fee to park your car.
Most public universities charge a fee to park your personal vehicle. I believe this is to limit the number of cars on the site so they don't have to build more parking lots. Building parking lots would cost more money, giving the taxpayers something else to complain about.
The public university I attended charged $70 to park your car on the lot 10 years ago. I parked 3 blocks off campus and showed up 5 minutes earlier.
It's a school, not a parking lot. You pay taxes so children can learn, not have a parking lot so Jimmy can play football after school and not have to get a ride home.
