I remember reading an article that noted that the topsoil is over 200 feet deep in places.
Actually most soil scientists and farmers would disagree with that. While there is no rock or gravel for a long ways down there are older loess deposits that are not as fertile and contain more clay that have been exposed on some hilltops and generally can be found within 30ft of the surface. |
