You need to include the value of cover crops in recycling nutrients from lower in the soil profiles and retaining N and P that would other wise be lost from the farm and end up as a problem in the Gulf, which may lead to further regulation of our industry.
I've been to Harrisburg, PA and I went to college in C IA, and the soils and terrain are no where near the same. I'm not sure what the answer is for cold, wet soils in IA, but there are areas in ND that are doing well w/ them, so I don't believe they will never work. Challenging, yes, and some yrs worse than other, but still workable. | |
