The lack of rear gear doors made the Cardinals (177s) very cold in the back seat. You're not alone.

It's really hard for me to imagine any commercial operator using the plane again & again w/that problem. You're saying the gear down light NEVER came on? Even after shutdown/startup again? If I would've had a problem & needed to get the plane home, I would've (& did) fly it "stiff-legged" (gear down & locked) vs going thru all that "no gear light" crap again.

Getting those big passenger doors open on a 177 in-flight must've been extraordinary, even with "slipping" away from the open door side.

Unbelievable.
