Subject: Couple more thoughts

First, a 2166 is a machine I would much rather rebuild than an old 1460 or 1660, you already have the nice cab, hydraulics, long sieves, etc. Rebuilding would be a lot more attractive if you have a nice heated shop and a week or two to devote to it every winter, as opposed to paying somebody else's labor to do it. The flip side is, at some point you have to decide whether to run it till it goes to the boneyard, or if you want to keep a reasonably late model. It's nice to upgrade something when you have the OPTION to do so, if you run in to a poor crop year and have 2 or 3 things die on you that have to be replaced unexpectedly that is a bad situation. Like you said, there is no clear cut answer but it is never going to be free to harvest a crop. Also, factor in that CIH usually has a year interest free financing on combines and occasionally has been 24 months-if you take that and add the 10K you would have spent on repairs, you could knock a big chunk of debt off the newer machine pretty quickly.
