Subject: RE: Can't really answer, but what I did.

Aberdeen MS
Couple of years ago, my 1460 was in the same boat basically. Motor good, clean the cab up.... looks like only a few years old. Structurally, solid machine.

Cone needed replacing, clean grain auger, vertical unload, a few other things.

To move up, what was available locally at the time, would have cost me around $35K give or take, and still maybe have to do half of what my 1460 needed. As my 1460 was, was worth about $3500.

I'm a solo guy, with an unheated gravel floor shop. So dealer replacement is what would have to be done.

I put $14K into it over 2 years. Basically have a 66 combine in a 60 frame. AFX rotor with new heavy cone, squirrel cage fan with air foil, etc.

PTO seal is seeping/leaking now, but "should" get by this fall yet. Neighbor guys with a nice heated shop that use to/still do pull wrenches will help with the PTO seal for a "winter" project.

This summer got approached by a local guy thinking about getting a few together for a "cooperative" venture to pool resources for fall harvest. Basically get some of us solo guys together. Pool current equipment for the "down" and move up in size and years. Dealer told me the 1460 as it is now is worth $10K+/-.

If your situation was "here" for "me", I'd be putting the 10 into it as long as everything else is in good running condition and taking another look in 3 to 4 years to see what shakes out with current market situations. You should be able to get that 10K back without any real depreciation. Especially if you are looking at things like I am that in another 6-7 years I will hang my hat up on the hook.
