Mascoutah, Illinois | I am kind of finding some humor in this thread. The majority of the folks on this site were completely in favor of the Pro Farmer Crop Tour. Now today because things didn't go the way they expected in the market, we aren't going to fill out surveys. Well, why did you let folks pull samples out of your fields just a month ago to derive a national yield "guess." Sounds like hyprocrisy to me.
Secondly, folks are criticizing the crop insurance which the government sponsors. If you do not like the government, stop signing up for it and make a stand on your own.
Third, folks are criticizing what number was put out yesterday by the USDA. How many of you were in the ballpark with what you thought your yields were going to be before you combined? If you were not close, how can the government be any closer?
We complain when the price has a three, a four, a five, a six, and a seven in front of it. Then we complain when fuel is $4.50 a gallon, NH3 was over a $1000 a ton, rents heading to $400 an acre, seed corn over $300 a bag. Guys buying new equipment every year and not thinking twice about it. (I got to have the new toy to keep up with the guy next to me.) At some point, stop blaming everyone and start looking in the mirror and taking responsibility for your balance sheet and marketing decisions. Discipline is key to any business surviving and thriving.
If a 65% percent rally in corn after July 1st cannot make you happy, I don't know what to tell you. | |
