NW Iowa | We run 2 combines, which for us I think works well. We all have day jobs, so getting a lot done in the afternoon/evenings is a necessity. We also do quite a bit of custom work. With the two machines, we can sometimes send one to do custom work (that guy usually hauls his own) and we can be working on ours using our cart and trucks. However, most of the time both are running in the same field just to keep in simple and incase of breakdowns, etc. In corn, we usually only run one, but this year we might be running both. Last year having two combines was well worth it, if we hadn't it would have been May before we got done. Like mentioned above, you not only have to look at the efficiency of the 1 vs 2 mchines in acres/hour, but what you have for labor running the machines and the support equipment getting the crop from the combine to town/bin. | |
