Highland Center, in Southeast Iowa | We had Allied when we first started farming, and had really good support and service from them. Then the FB agent came out, and because we had our health and life with FB, sold us a farm blanket policy for a much lower rate since everything would be thru FB. We kept that going for a lot of years until FB worked us over very badly on a claim......as has been noted, the agent is a bigger part of the company than the actual policy is. We left FB and went back to Allied, until we had storm damage that included a ruined auger. Allied adjuster said that he'd be happy to mail us a check for $170 for that bin auger, because it was such-and-so a model/year, had depreciated, etc. etc. DH told the adjuster to keep his 'generous' check, and at that point we moved to Auto Owners. Did I mention that the agent is more to the company than the policy is?? We have a fantastic agent; have had a couple of claims with them that were settled very quickly and very fairly. And by 'fairly', I don't mean that we got an exhorbitant amount of money out of them, I mean they were fair to us and to the company. Auto Owners covers our farm equipment, the trucks and all our liability, and the agent is here at least twice a year.....once just to stop in and say hi and make sure everything is going OK, and again in the fall to review the policy and make sure that we have listed and/or removed everything necessary to keep the coverage current. I have no doubt that if we had a combine fire that Owners would treat us right on the outcome. |
