Most likely, there will never be any RR sunflowers. They are too closely related, in fact, very closely related to the wild ones and gene transfer is a real possibility.

If they ever can figure out how to put the RR gene in the DNA that is only maternally inherited, then there might be a chance for RR sunflowers to exist if it can be proven that gene transfer into the wild ones will never occur.

There are already too many glyphosate resistant weeds out there, we do not need to add sunflowers to the ever growing list.
