Or put a bulb in line somewhere else where it doesn't have to be seen all the time or put an exciter line from the key switch directly to the alternator. Could that be the problem? The bulb creates enough resistance that the alternator is not getting enough excitement till the alternator starts putting out? I don't know - just an idea. I know on a pickup when you hook up jumper cables to a dead battery the alternator will pull the engine down slightly when at idle with the charging load and the laternator can't be running at very high speed then. Just wonder if the alternator is not getting proper excitement at low speeds? Probably not the problem - been a long time since I messed with that kind of stuff.
