Subject: Indiana farm plate laws?

Had a friend who went to Farm Bureau convention back in December came home excited about little known law that allows you to license a farm truck at it's empty weight full of fuel when hauling farm products as long as you stay off the interstate. I asked local dot guys about this and they say it's b.s. and they have been told to act accordingly so I ask Mark Thornburg, Farm bureau's legal affairs guy and he e-mails me a copy of this letter from the cheif commercial vehicle enforcement guy in Indiana(www.btny.purdue.edu/ppp.) Then this week in Agri News on page b7 I see this same law explained and the local dot guys claim they have been told to target anyone trying to use this law to run lighter plates and I am very confused . Does anyone else know anything about this, it does seem very unfair to me that we are forced to pay nearly a dollar per mile to keep some the old trucks plated.
