Subject: Topo software for RTK network planning

We're starting an RTK network and I'm wondering if there is a piece of software out there that would help us lay out our network bases and repeaters. I'm looking for something like Google Earth that would allow me to mark potential base locations and measure distances to fields that it would cover. I really need it to tell me where there might be a high spot between the base and potential repeater location. I know I could just look at topo maps - have been doing that already, but it's 2007, and I'm sure that there has got to be some software that would make this less eye-straining! We are in some pretty rolling terrain and I want to make sure that we place our base towers in the best possible spot. Also, what kind of range - realistically - can we expect with a Trimble RTK system? How far away can we expect good signal and how far away can we place repeaters?
