I had one of those for about 5 years and also had df on it with those single disc openers. I hated the planter, but those fertilizer openers were absolutely the best things I have ever seen even up to today.
I did not have a break like that, but the row units were so lightly built that a stick caught between the lift wheel and a gauge wheel would bend up the whole row unit. Pathetic.
