SE ND | We have run Deere forever and had 9870s up until last year in corn and soybeans. Switched to 8120 mid last fall for the track system. 76x50 floaters were not cutting it in the extreme mud. One of the better moves we have made. Will never have a combine on the farm again without tracks. These combines and headers are so big now it seems to me like they should be standard on all class 8-9 combines.
As far as the machine goes I love how easy it is to get at everything on on the Case, shields come right off and you can look right in the back at the sieves. No more stupid tiny plastic door to look in or dinky electric jack to lift the whole chopper. Cab is also incredibly roomy and quiet on the Case. Head and shoulders better. I like the GPS system and cab electronics better on the Deere. I like more displays so i don't have to change home screens every time i want different information. And seriously Case...still no variety locator????? Lets get out of 07 and enter the modern era of GPS and the whole one display idea is ridiculous. Power was significantly better with the 9870. That 13.5 is a puller esp with the 612C hooked up and the 40 hp power boost. The unload auger was also a huge step backward on the Case. I believe it's three inches smaller than JD. How Case can rate it the same capacity is as farcical as anything I have ever seen. Both combines had plenty of rotor loss in light wet corn last fall but hopefully I can get that reduced this year with the better corn. That 40 ft flex draper on the Case is a dream to run. The ability to quickly change your angle on the cutterbar and shave the ground is excellent soybean saving technology. And we also have rocks so being able to pull it back as well when needed should be a machine saver. So this is the perspective of a corn-soy guy. Take it for what it's worth. As you can tell i think neither is the ultimate machine and if you combined them they would be pretty close to it. I'd like to try a Lexion because i think it would do a really a good job of saving corn from going out the back but all the neighbors who have had them say you better keep it new cause they have so many moving parts-bearings they will not stay in the field after 600 hrs. So who knows...maybe the auto greaser solved that problem on them. All in all i am pretty satisfied with the move to red...but i think they could do better. | |
