Subject: RE: Hearing aids

My Dad has hearing aids, but without looking I cannot tell you the brand name. Yes they were very expensive, but just because they cost a lot doesn't mean they work right. I can tell you that we are not happy with the service. He had been going to a very reputable ENT group here and they had a "hearing specialist" in the office, the more we've dealt with them the more we've come to realize that he is nothing but a salesman who's had a week or two of specialized training to run the hearing machines and adjust the hearing aids, basically someone who has set up shop inside the ENT group practice. We have finally had enough of them.

I don't know if you are close to a University Medical Center, if you are, do some checking around and see if you can get an appointment with one of their doctors. I have to tell you I was not a big fan of the University centers because here they handle all of the folks who don't have any other insurance etc. When I met my wife a few years ago she slowly started changing my mind about the doctors at a university center and while I am still not convinced I will tell you that if you pick the right one you would probably get better care and better advice there. Number one most of them are the best in their fields if they are in a teaching position, second most are on salary and not under pressure to see a certain number of patients every hour. In the case of looking for a hearing aid I doubt any of them will have a vested interest to use the "in house guy" when making recommendations.

See if you can't get a money back guarantee for a 30 or 60 day trial.

Good luck
