Northern Illinois | Too often in those family type situations you are simply an appraiser. My parents have tried buying two farms in the last 8 years that they were told they were high bidder and most likely to get it and then missed out on both by 100 bucks an acre within days after the offer. Both went to family, although I can't really complain because if I was in those shoes trying to buy I would hope my family would give me a shot to readjust if reasonable! I would put a fair but not overly aggressive offer on it, that way if like you said they aren't paying much rent they may have to pay a more fair number and you will not look like a guy trying to pick up ground with stupid high rents. | |
