Subject: Re: Wheat Freeze Damage Update

After looking over the whole situation, we all need some sunshine and warm weather to get things going again. We have one node here in my area of N.C. Kansas, therefore we have jointed and I think I have the Feekes scale correct at Feekes 6 (instead of 5). Much of the wheat is laid over with breaks in the stalk above and below the growing point at the first node. Correct me if I am wrong, but It seems to me that everything above the break will die. If the break occured above the head that particular tiller will be O.K. provided the color of the head stays like Phil mentioned when we get out of these refridgerator conditions. If the break is lower than the head, the plant may tiller again to some extent (is that correct). The standing wheat should be O.K. provided the head maintains that tender green center. Here in N.C. Kansas, every feild has a combination of all of this. Once it warms up enough to really acess the situation, can we do anything to minimize our losses. Understanding that you have limited information, in my particular situation many of my pH's are close to 8 making micronutrients a common problem and etc...
