| Even at Feekes 5, the developing leaves form a pseudo-stem which holds it upright. Damage to that tissue would cause the plant to fall over, much like damage to a true stem on a more-developed plant.
Plants at Feekes 5 should have good odds of a decent recovery, since those younger plants would have a high propensity to add more tillers to compensate for damage to the main stem. | |
