Subject: Re: Pioneer 87P06 Milo

Colby, KS
I've grown both G08 and G32 side by side and have seen no difference. Literally the only difference is slightly darker grain on G32. They are darn near interchangeable.

I've had all the milo hybrids I've ever grown lodge at one point or another....just depends on the year. Mostly if there is enough rainfall late in the year to support the tillers made early in the year. The hybrids that are more hesitant to tiller seem to stand better. 87G57 is the overall worst for lodging. I worked for Pioneer for 7 years and it got to where we wouldn't sell it unless someone requested it!

Interestingly enough, row width has something to do with lodging. The guys that drill milo are up here are getting it to stand better than guys that plant it in rows. Must have something to do with plant density and not solely population. I've been wanting to try milo in 12" rows because at the population I plant it would pretty much turn into a grid (12" plants apart in 12" rows)
