| We just sent out this week's Southern grain report, and at the start of the week I thought some of my contacts would be talking about declining worm and bug pressure, but I'm still not hearing much of that. Things maybe are getting worse in some places and/or with some species, with more vague reports about product shortages. There remain areas with relatively light pressure, all-round. More beans are getting past the point that insects matter, but that's only dumping more of them into later fields.
I didn't have to make many calls to hear about some farmers starting on the third treatment, with maybe some lining up for a fourth shot.
That report late last week about record moth catches in Kentucky prompted an advisory from Oklahoma this afternoon to be on the lookout for fall armyworms there, too.
I got a note from a county agent in southern Pennsylvania telling me about a lot of stink bugs in his farmers' fields. Here's a link to this week's issue. http://agfax.com/southerngrain/2010/reports/0902.htm Folks in the DelMarVa might be interested in reading comments from Ames Herbert at Virginia Tech and Dominic Reisig at NCSU. Ames also posted an update late today on his blog regarding loopers.
