Ryegrass, tillage radish and crimson clover are some of the better aerially seeded covers. This mix is being tried in farms in my neck of the woods. Total seed costs are less then $20/A. As always, aerially seeding is hit or miss. Timely rains are the wild card.
Cowpeas will not work very well- to large a seed to germinate on the soil surface, too many lbs per A and will die with the very first frost.
