 North Central Illinois
 | Talked to a producer 15 miles west of me with 104 day corn running around 205. Moisture is about 20%. This corn had Goss' wilt pretty bad. They are hoping later healthier corn will be better. This is on ground that has a five year average of about 230 bpa. Another producer about 15 miles south of me reported 106 day corn at about 20% and 185 bu. They are extremely dissapointed. These guys usually place very high in the national yield contest every year. Their ground has lots and lots of cattle manure and they are accustomed to 250 bu corn with no problem. They were in a pocket that got pretty dry right after pollination and then had a lot of 90's and a few 100's over the past month. They were kind of thinking 200 to 210 for this year. Very early yet but it appears that corn is going to be about 20 bu short of what guys thought. Will be interesting to hear some yields when northern Iowa and parts of Minnesota crank up. Its gonna be up to them to crank out some big yields. | |
