 | Ditto on the holding capacity here too Mike. Top soils pretty good in many cases, it's what is underneath that affects our plant health later in growing season. If I recall correctly, during around pollination time and to finish, the plant is using 60% of its water needs deeper then 2 ft....I could be off a bit with the values, but it does use a majority of its water deeper then most would think. Very obvious as we now see brown spots in many fields after this wind lately. Lack of water deeper affected the N takeup as well = smaller ears not filled to tips in most cases. Picked up 1" last night....good for the beans at this point.
