JEFFERSON CITY (AP) -- Missouri's new budget year has begun a lot like its old one -- with declining state revenues.
Figures released Thursday show Missouri's general revenues fell 4.2 percent in July compared with the same month one year ago. July was the start of Missouri's 2011 fiscal year.
Revenues declined by 9.1 percent in the 2010 budget year and by 6.9 percent in 2009.
State budget director Linda Lueberring says one reason for the decline in July is that people still are holding on to their money and not spending as much.
Missouri sales tax collections fell 9.7 percent in July compared with last year. Income tax collections remained relatively flat." | |
