Callao, Missouri | We can't decide if the wind blowing so hard helped the wheat, or hurt it. I checked the wheat last night, and saw some white leaves. I've got a clump of wheat in the house right now trying to thaw it out and see if it grows normal. If the wheat doesn't make it, the only options I see are milo and corn. I really don't want to raise corn as I am already planning on planting enough corn. Don't really want to raise milo as it costs me 95 cents/bu to haul it to St. Louis.
My wheat had 110lb of N on it in a fall application of 50lb and an application of 60lb about 1 month ago. The wheat looked excellent until this cold. It's about 14" tall, and dark green. If I decide to kill it with RU, how much nitrogen will I have available for a corn or milo crop? The previous crop was 45bu/acre soybeans.
I also have most of this crop contracted, so it could be a double whammy.
