Burlington, IA | Goss's wilt bacteria overwinters in infected residue on the soil surface, or in weed hosts. It can also be seedborne, and seed transmitted. Bacteria enters the plant through seed to seedling transmission, or through wounds. Damage from hail and/or heavy wind can contribute to bacterial infection and dispersal.
Management consists of selecting less susceptible hybrids, tillage to help break up disease harboring residue, and rotation.
