Until this year, I've always had a problem with material building up on the top of the combine feederhouse. A couple different causes, that I can put my finger on: We had to travel fairly fast to keep the machine full, and with faster travel, the reel speed had to be increased; which made it more prone to throwing stuff backwards. The other thing was the back of the platform conveyor auger threw things up and back. Some of that found it's way back to the top of the feederhouse, and I suspect that a fair bit also didn't have the feederhouse to land on and just fell into the field -- unthreshed. Both of the above were taken after less than half a day running, and it was always kind of a messy job to push the stuff off. I'd given the problem considerable thought and had come up with an idea for something that might work, but never got a "round-tuit", so it was an ongoing problem. This year, I was 'stimulated' to find a solution that seems to be very effective, although different than what I'd envisioned. This is the problem area after three days running. Sure stays a lot cleaner now. |
