SEON | My experience is that straw doesn't heat.
We had a screw up this year and someone baled some wet straw into 4x4x8 big squares. After baling we piled them in the barn and they started to stink so we probed them. The moisture was off the scale at 99.9%. They weren't heating though. This is consistent with what I've noticed in other years as well.
I think heating is part of the fermentation process and I don't believe there is enough sugar in the straw for it to ferment.
