My CPS rep is trying to get info on this. He is coming up short. Is this something you came up with or is it something only Edison CPS has?

I remember you saying you use no added N but today you tell us you used 40 units on thousands of acres. Does your added N vary with the observation of the corn??

John

Hello John, Your CPS rep could call Edison, Ohio CPS and visit with Adam or Brad

Multiple forms of N 2 to 3 times for those maximum yields and maximum Nitrogen efficiency is critical.

This is something we have worked with on a trial, plot basis for many years. Challenging Yields with a late season Nutrient program.

this Year, with the flooding and excessive rain fall in June. we decided to see if we could challenge these Yields and recover some damaged areas showing visual N deficiency. and continue to improve the overall Bu. sold from each field. efficiently.

This was an opportunity to expand the Plot work we do every season and to improve on timely and efficient applications of Nutrients.

Edison Ohio CPS is a few miles from a good flying service so this makes for a very good Opportunity to apply and monitor the results.

Yes, You are correct concerning the additional N. year in , year out, Other than for replicated plot work.

this year with obvious N Leaching and the very good stand overall. We wanted to be sure that we were taking advantage of the Balance of the growing season to maximize yields over all.

Bin-Buster 30 and 40 is a name used to track the desired formula for specific fields.

and as I have mentioned, compliments the dry Pre plant broadcast ! We are working on applying less in the spring for More normal season's and Maintaining yields and N efficiency.

being able to Pick and choose additional Nutrient applications according to stand, weather and weather related issues.

Over and or Under applying N. On farms is becoming more of a topic each season.

the average for the past 10 seasons that we have good records on is .6-.7 N per Bu. corn sold , Pd for.

Hay, with a much more complex rotation uses little if No N. commercial N. for the excellent results that he sees.

Now if you look at the thread concerning the additional Nutrients needed to take advantage of the New High Tech seed we have available ?

We are searching for the maximum efficiency.

The reality of averaging 200 to 240 Bu. per acre sold across the scales is quite achievable with a Pre Plant broadcast in our situation.

But we are seeing more and more 280 to 300 Bu # on the monitor and in weighed plots so we are looking at that next level of efficiency and the ability to efficiently produce a given Bu. of corn.

Plant health is also a requirement and we found in the 70's that just adding more N was not always good for plant health.

Late feeding of Nutrients has been discussed with Francis Child's and others over the years across the corn belt.
As I related last winter in some Posting concerning last season and the fly on acres applied it was app. 1.000 for plot work.

there are many that read this forum that are applying a late season application of Nutrients, some Two times .

If You study the Nutrient program for those that Irrigate and consistently produce High Yield Crops you will find a mid to late feeding of more than N many times.

Each and every farming operation will have to find that balance of Rate and Timing to meet their specific needs.

For many a timely side dress application is the very best.

or a combination of some Fall applied, then the balance side dressed.
