Subject: cover crop cocktail

chestertown, md
i would like to plant rye and radishes in alternating rows with my 1590 drill, after corn going to beans next year. maryland has a cover crop program to plant covers (save the bay) that is set up for one or the other, not a mix. went to nrcs office to ask permission from md usda to do this. they replyed why would anybody want to do that? can somebody supply me with a good list of reasons for doing this that would satisfy md usda?
does anybody have pictures of this mix growing?
also have a neighbor that was thinking about mixing radishes in with his winterwheat crop-for harvest. i think i have read somewhere that this has been done before with positive results. true? and at what rate?
