| Today between rural Ellsworth and Ames, I drove by 58 bean fields that I could see clearly, from 1/2 acre to 1/2 section. Of those, in eleven I didn't see SDS like symptoms. One is not far from from the old Hill Seed HQ and three are next to the Sandsgaard warehouse. One is very small, a patch that hasn't been cropped until last year, was a house yard for a long time. More than 38 years that I've driven by it. One of the larger fields had symptoms over at least half the field, most weren't that thick, one closer to the Hill Seed HQ had only one patch, an oval 6 x 10 feet that I could see from the road at highway speed. I didn't stop and scout or cut stems to look for brown stem rot.
There is a lot of SDS symptom out there on these routes. And there is a lot of standing water damage. I didn't count the yellowed swales as SDS symptoms.
