Get a manual that tells how to do the lead ball method, & use it-the preload will never change, if you do it right, it won't do what it did ever again... look at the brakes while you're in there, see if the linings are loose on the rivets. If they are, you might oughta look at the other side. The axle can be ground undersize, JD has a bearing, if it's not too bad. Grinding specs come w/ the US bearing...
