| Inital margin on a mini corn (1000 bu) is 150, plus another 150 for maintence, meaning you will need $300 for every 1000 bu corn contract. Just multiply the numbers by five for a regular 5000 bu contract. I deal with 1000 bu contracts with my broker because I dont farm that many acres, but IMO the commosions(sp?) on the minis kill you because they are the same as a big contract. i.e. --it costs more per bushel to hedge with minis.
They have 1000 mini bean and 5000 regular bean contracts too, but the margins will be much greater.
I guess I should have followed the link in the previous post before replying as it appears as margins on corn have gone up to 200mini/1000full since I last traded. The CBOT must be scared of all the speculation in the market.
