N FLA | My 0.02 not knowing all of the history, I would put in a vote for Mr. Max Carter from Douglas GA. He adopted strip tillage in the Early 70's. There is information online about his history. Of course he used the southern variant as you have identified it. There are many stories of him on the web. We were recently fortunate enough to have him speak at an Extension Meeting. No substitute for decades of experience and trial and error.

I dont personally think it is an issue if the planter is directly behind it, or days or weeks behind. Still strip-till either way. As for equipment, I strip-till my research plots with an old Brown-Hardin rig which I was actually told (wrong or right) was the first strip till rig. Ive attached some KMC parts to duplacate a Rip-Strip or whatever their model is called. You might study them as the first strip till unit a little harder.
