Subject: International Harvester till planter

Oswald No-Till Farm Cleghorn, IA
Also,

Somewhere, I have a photo of an International Harvester "till planter" (not lister, though similar) that was front mounted on a "M" Farmall. I think this design was back in the 1940's-50's. As was often the case (no pun intended), IHC was often rather innovative but sometimes a decade or two out ahead of the curve.

The design was very similar to that which became the Buffalo Till Planter if memory serves correct.

As noted my Jim at Dawn, the problem with a strip till planter one-pass system is that many cornbelt soils do not like to be handled wet and spring is often wet on non-sandy soils of the Midwest. We are getting close with a number of planter attachments on the market, but I really don't think we have not seen a true direct seeding row unit capable of the adjustments and adaptability to optimally plant corn directly into many of our wetter soils. That day will come, and then "northern" strip till will have to readjust as well.
