Eastern Half of Kansas | When I test alfalfa I pull 15 to 20 samples, more than most. My thoughts are the more samples you pull the accurate the test will be. 3x3 bales pull in the middle of the bale, they say if your buying pull at the top, (less leaves). Selling pull at the bottom, (more leaves). When we are pulling samples, some discolored comes out it goes in the bag, grass goes in the bag, if its representative of the hay. If the hay is from the same field, baled in the same conditions, same time on cut you should be fine with one sample test. If hay got shower on, one field is 28 days on cut and one is 38 then you need different samples. Currently we are still testing all fields, comparing differnet variaties. When all conditions are equal we are seeing only about 7 points difference on 1st cutting on RFV. 16 points on 2nd cutting. | |
